Boracay Resort

Boracay Girls

Boracay is THE place to go on vacation in the Philippines...excellent hotels, a variety of great restaurants, places to go sightseeing, and a fantastic white, powdery sand beach!
Boracay is a small island off the northwest coast of Panay Island. The best way to get there is to fly one of the smaller airlines (like Asian Spirit or Sea Air) into the town of Caticlan. The airport at Caticlan is about 1/4 mile from the pier where you can take a boat over to the island. If you fly Philippine Airlines, the nearest town to Boracay that the airline flies in to is Kalibo which is about a three-hour bus ride to the pier.
As for hotels, there are a lot of them all along White Beach. The saying "you get what you pay for" applies here. For the most part, the more expensive the hotel, the nicer the place. FYI, If you want to be close to the nightlife then you'll want to stay near Station 2 (the middle of White Beach). For a quieter location stay at either station 1 or 3 (the ends of the beach). It's about a ten minute walk from station 1 or 3 to go to station 2.
Things to do: Besides the obvious water sports (scuba, snorkeling, sailing, jetskiing, swimming, etc.) you can also go sightseeing around the island. You can hire a trike (3-wheeled motorcycle) and the driver will take you around, or if you know how to ride a motorcycle, you can rent out a dirtbike. I suggest seeing Mt. Luho (the highest point on the island), Arch Rock, and Puka Beach. Stay away from Bat Cave or Crystal Cave...kind of difficult to get in/out of, dark (can hear the bats but can't see them), and you'll get bat droppings on your clothes.
As for restaurants, you can't go wrong. I tried a bunch and wasn't disappointed in any of them. Make sure you sit among the palm trees near the beach instead of vying for the indoor seating. One recommendation during the heat of mid-day is to go to Jonah's (near station 1) and drink one of their many truly delicious fruit shakes!!
The only thing bad about Boracay is that you get approached often, while walking along the beach, to be asked if you want to buy something (sunglasses, a watch, to go sailing/island hopping, to buy pearls, etc.). It gets annoying after awhile when all you want to do is to enjoy a nice romantic stroll along the beach.
